PART 1

2. Family Rhythms and Rituals

A gentle and practical exploration of shared family practices that support learning, balance and connection at home.

Whether it's daily, weekly, or yearly, rituals punctuate the rhythm of our lives with presence, reverence, and connection, bringing meaning to the mundane, awakening a sense of belonging, and restoring sanity to chaos. We have evolved to need this, and a child's being longs for this. Let's explore how to bring meaningful rhythms and rituals to life in your home and family.

In this talk, we’ll explore and learn about:

  • Family rituals rooted in values and connection

  • Collective care of the home

  • Shared creativity and play

PART 1

The Importance of Rhythm in Childhood

What does rhythm actually mean, how does it apply to daily life, and why do our children need it now more than ever?”

All of nature and life rest in cycles of rhythms, and so do we. A universal breath in and breath out, a contraction and expansion, cycles of life and death, activity and rest. There was a time humans and rhythm were inseparable; we have evolved to thrive when living within a healthy rhythm. Our modern times ‘always-on, always available, schedule-driven, and never enough time’ have removed us from the natural rhythms of daily life, and our children and we are paying the price.

You’ll learn:

  • What is rhythm really

  • Why children need it in their development and learning

  • How to create a supportive rhythm at home that brings more flow, cooperation and peace.
